Special Events Organizer

The Canadian Federation of Students–Ontario seeks a Special Events Organizer, to assist in the Federation’s development of the annual skills-based training, 2025 Ontario Skills Development Symposium for incoming student union executives, staff, board members and volunteers and as well, the Federation’s 2025 Annual General Meeting.

The Canadian Federation of Students–Ontario (CFS-O) represents 350,000 college and university students from 35 students’ unions in Ontario. CFS–Ontario is an autonomous, incorporated, not-for-profit organization, affiliated with the Canadian Federation of Students, which brings together over 500,000 students across Canada. The Canadian Federation of Students was formed in 1981 to provide students with an effective and united voice, provincially and nationally and to provide cost-saving services to its members.

  • Salary: $24.00 and hour, 30 hours a week

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Special Events Organizer will help assist with shall undertake duties as directed by the Federation’s Ontario Executive. Such duties include, but are not limited to: 

Ontario Skills Development Symposium: Assist with the Ontario Skills Development Symposium for 200+ incoming student union executives, staff, board members and volunteers. This event takes place annually and is scheduled to take place June 2025.

Ontario Annual General Meeting: Assist with the Ontario Annual General Meeting for 100+ delegates across the province. This event takes place annually and is scheduled to take place in August 2025.

Campaigns and Services Implementation: Assist Federation representatives in coordinating the implementation of Federation campaigns and services on member local campuses. 

Campus Students’ Union Support: Assist representatives in maintaining contact with member students’ unions on a regular basis and providing support in the development and implementation of locally directed and determined campaigns and services. 

Membership Development: Help and assist with the development and implementation of member outreach strategies, including making presentations to college and university students’ unions and other student organizations. 

General Work: Attending and assisting with the organizing of provincial and national general membership meetings and executive meetings; engaging in collective office work, including general operational and day-to-day administrative responsibilities; working collectively with the other Federation staff; and performing additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current knowledge of the Ontario government and the Canadian political process, and of the aims of and issues facing the student movement across the province and country; 
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Federation of Students–Ontario, the Canadian Federation of Students and the representation and services provided to their membership; 
  • Experience in the student movement; 
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in coordinating campaigns around specific demands; 
  • Experience and skills in organizing volunteers and coordinating education and outreach initiatives; 
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in project management, assessment and service delivery; 
  • Strong written communication skills and strong oral communication skills; 
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and the Office Suite (2011 and above), Canva, Adobe In-Design and Adobe Acrobat, and proficiency in working in a Macintosh environment;  
  • Willingness to travel; and 
  • Ability to be Bilingual in English and French is an asset. 

This work for this position is hybrid with in-person and virtual duties. Some work events will take place in the evenings and on weekends.
