In January of 2015, the Canadian Federation of Students-Ontario brought student representatives from across the province to Queen’s Park for a roundtable with Premier Kathleen Wynne on campus initiatives to combat sexual violence. Student representatives spoke of the opportunities and challenges they faced in attempting to make their campuses safer and more inclusive spaces. This roundtable was one piece of the province’s historic Sexual Violence and Harassment Action Plan (SVHAP), which was announced in March of 2015 with significant student input. Since then, the Federation has continued to be deeply involved in the implementation of SVHAP, working alongside sector and community partners and sitting on the province’s Roundtable on Violence Against Women to advise government on policy and legislation. For more information on the Federation’s lobbying efforts regarding sexual violence and harassment, see the section on Sexual Assault in the federation’s 2016 budget submission.
